An enduring legacy

An enduring legacy of love, faith and hope for the future

The joy of the Gospel is for all people… Do not be afraid to go and to bring Christ to the fringes of society, even to those who seem farthest away.’ Pope Francis

Legacies form a significant part of Missio’s annual income. For a charity that depends entirely on donations, this income stream could not be more important! Legacies provide a vital lifeline for the challenging work of missionaries, who often risk their lives to bring Christ’s message of love and hope to communities living in isolated and impoverished areas. They enable us to take on long-term projects, such as the building of orphanages, health clinics, schools and chapels. They also help us provide spiritual and practical support to families torn apart by war and conflict. Without funding from legacies, we could not do this work which transforms the lives of so many people around the world. Even after our pilgrimage on earth has ended, our legacy can live on to bear witness to Christ’s love for our brothers and sisters in need.

You will be remembered in prayer

Missio’s deceased benefactors are remembered at Mass in our chapel in our London office, and their names are included in our Memorial books. In the month of November, Missio celebrates Mass in remembrance of and thanksgiving for benefactors who have left a legacy to Missio in their Will.

Why create a Will?

Writing a Will allows you to provide for your loved ones and for the causes that are close to your heart. Knowing that you have things in place brings peace of mind and ensures that your final wishes will be respected. You could also spare your family unnecessary distress and expense as they will be in no doubt about your wishes. Home-made Wills can create more problems than they solve – even small mistakes can invalidate them. It is best and relatively inexpensive to use a solicitor who is a regulated and insured professional.

Giving to Missio

Should you wish to remember Missio in your Will, you can leave a pecuniary bequest (a fixed sum of money), or a residuary bequest (a gift in your Will of what is left of your estate after all your bequests have been made and the cost of winding up your affairs has been met). Please use the following wording:

'I bequeath to Missio (23 Eccleston Square, London SW1V 1NU, Registered Charity Number 1056651), the sum of £..... and/or x proportion of my residuary estate; and I declare that the receipt of the Treasurer or National Director (for the time being) shall be a good discharge to my Executors.'

If you would like to talk in complete confidence about leaving a legacy to Missio, please call Monica Caro on 020 7821 9755. Alternatively you can email  and we can send you our legacy leaflet, with no obligation. The leaflet includes more information and advice as well as details of how to leave a legacy to one of our four branches or to Mill Hill Missionaries. Your information will not be given to any other organisation and if you are not already on our mailing list, we will not write to you again, unless you request it.

Missio’s commitment

Be assured that when you give to Missio you are giving to people who work to the highest level of commitment and accountability. Our work, through the Catholic Church and directly through local bishops in mission dioceses, ensures the prompt and efficient distribution of funds where the need is greatest.

Missio is the Pope’s official charity for overseas mission and part of the worldwide network of Pontifical Mission Societies. We do not receive grants from the Government or EU sources, or keep investments.

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also’
