The Pope’s visit to Hyde Park for a Vigil of Prayer on 18 September did not go without its support from Missio Volunteers! The National Director, Mgr John Dale, and most of the staff from Eccleston Square gathered in the Invited Pilgrims area of the park, caring for several thousand invited guests.
A group of volunteers from Missio and from Redemptorist Publications took charge of the Visitor Centres, catering for the bulk of the 80,000 people who attended the event.
The individual societies were ably represented by a small group of stalwarts, led by Fr Brian Oswald MHM, as they carried banners in procession through Hyde Park to the massive stage to which Pope Benedict would later come. Part of the Invited Pilgrims area, reserved for the banners representing Catholic parishes and organisations throughout the country, thus became a multi-coloured carpet of generosity and faith.
