LUSAKA, Zambia - 'We offered a special Mass remembering his great contribution to the Church in Zambia, and many other mission territories,' declared Fr Bernard Makadani Zulu, National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Zambia. Archbishop Fulton Sheen, Emeritus Bishop of Rochester (New York) died in New York City on 9 December 1979.
Fr. Bernard recalls that Sheen 'had a real missionary conscience as PMS National Director for the USA. He supported the many priests in Africa through Mass stipends, which are a sole source of livelihood for many priests. We are glad to participate in the celebration of 30th Anniversary of his death and for the cause of his beatification.'
