Catholic Church helps thousands of refugees
November 24th, 2009

BUJUMBURA, Burundi - 'The Church in Burundi is working hard to meet the needs of the Burundi refugees returning from Tanzania,' said Fr Niciteretse, for the Bishops of Burundi. 'Our main concern is that of reconciling the people. There are refugees who have been living in camps in Tanzania since 1972. The reconciliation effort began even before the refugees returned to Burundi.  I  express my gratitude to the Church in Tanzania, the missionaries, priests, religious, and laity who have been assisting the Burundi refugees for years. A special relationship has been formed among our church communities.'

In 2008, Missio gave the archdiocese of Bujumbura £34,900 for its Major Seminary and £24,000 for the training and support of catechists.
