Dear Friends
Greetings from Eccleston Square.
I hope you enjoy this issue of Mission Today. As usual, there is an abundance of remarkable articles by our contributors, each a specialist in their subject. Sr Janet reminds us of the importance of ‘Holy Things’ in our lives – of the presence of God in so many rich and varied ways. And Fr Peter shares with us the great news about the Pope’s visit in September to celebrate the beatification of Cardinal Newman.
It is Fr Fox’s article however which resonates so deeply with us these days. Forgiveness is at the heart of all we believe, all we hope for and, in so many ways is the Church’s greatest message to the world: Christ among us healing, restoring and forgiving.
Both to forgive and to seek forgiveness require humility, and the capacity to be still in the presence of God and the other person. This demands the kind of openness to dialogue which is at the heart of Christ’s mission to the world. During these turbulent times we must all learn to listen to the cries of the abandoned, the hurt and the poor.
Let’s pray for the Pope and for each other.
Father John
