Many greetings from Eccleston Square. I hope you are enjoying the blessings of Winter – warm homes, good conversation and the opening choruses of blackbird song.

As you can see, Mission Today has taken on a slightly different face. I hope you like the new look. I know it will take some time to get used to it but my hope is that it will begin to appeal to younger readers and to our new Church members from overseas.

Of course we have retained all of our familiar contributors – Fr Fox, Fr Hemer, Fr Peter and Sister Janet – as well as the customary Mill Hill Newsround, and the overview of mission news in World Call. The good news is that Sister Janet will now be based in our office where she will help to boost our ability to communicate with all of our readers and supporters. There will be more about this next time.

For the first time we have included a separate item on ‘where our money goes’ and we hope to do this more often so that you can see exactly how your generous support helps the new Churches. We will continue to publish our simplified financial report in the Summer issue of Mission Today.

There are also items on some of the ‘hotspots’ in Africa with which APF/Mill Hill has had a long relationship. The Catholics of England and Wales have for many years sent people and financial support to the Church in Zimbabwe and Kenya. It is a cause of great sadness now that both those beautiful countries are being ravaged by internal strife. Whilst we will continue to support them financially, it is more important than ever that we stand alongside our brothers and sisters (of whatever faith) in love and prayer.

Thank you for everything you do to support the work of APF/Mill Hill. It is a vital work, much loved across the world, without which the Church cannot manage.

In missionary unity,

Mgr John Dale,
Editor, Mission Today
